Orange County Eubanks Road C&D Landfill <br />Permit Technical Specifications <br />Revised March 15, 2021 <br />Section 02221 - 2 <br /> <br /> <br />3.04. Sheeting and Shoring <br /> <br />Sheeting and shoring shall be furnished in accordance with the provisions of OSHA and as <br />necessary to construct and protect the excavation, existing utilities, structures of all types, and <br />as necessary for the safety of the employees. <br /> <br />3.05. Dewatering <br /> <br />Where conditions are such that running or standing water occurs in the trench bottom or the <br />soil in the trench bottom displays a "quick" tendency, the water should be removed by pumps <br />and suitable means such as well points or pervious underdrain bedding until the pipe has been <br />installed and the backfill has been placed to a sufficient height to prevent pipe flotation. <br /> <br />3.06. Material <br /> <br />A. Suitable Material <br /> <br /> Backfilling shall normally be done with the earth removed from the trench or <br />excavation, provided that the excavated material is suitable for backfilling. <br /> <br />B. Unsuitable Material <br /> <br /> Material such as clay mass, frozen materials, cinders, ashes, refuse, and vegetable <br />or organic material shall be construed as unsuitable material for backfill. <br /> <br />C. Approved Granular Material <br /> <br /> Granular material shall be well graded crushed stone meeting the requirements of <br />Class I Select Backfill Material as specified in Section 1016 of the North Carolina <br />Standard Specifications for Roads and Structures. <br /> <br />3.07. Excavation for Trenches <br /> <br />A. General <br /> <br /> Excavation for trenches shall conform to the lines and grades shown on the <br />approved drawings. Excavated material shall be removed and used for backfilling <br />where suitable. <br /> <br />B. Pipe <br /> <br />The trench shall be excavated to a level below the established pipe grade in <br />accordance with the requirements for bedding as specified below.
