<br /> HILLSBOROUGH, NORTH CAROLINA
<br /> RESOLUTION OF COMMENDATION
<br /> For
<br /> T . Varna
<br /> WHEREAS, Anne C. Barnes was nominated by the voters of Orange County to the Orange County Board of Commissioners
<br /> in the Democratic Primary of May 1978 , and
<br /> WHEREAS, she was elected by the voters of Orange County to the Board of County Commissioners in the General Election
<br /> of November 1978, and
<br /> WHEREAS , she was elected by her fellow Commissioners as Chair of this Board December 1 , 1980 and served in this
<br /> position until December 7, 1981 , and
<br /> WHEREAS, in her position as Chair of the Board of Commissioners, she demonstrated through her poised and gracious
<br /> manner, a particular skill and understanding of those addressing the Board and always provided reassurance
<br /> to those who were hesitant or unsure , and
<br /> WHEREAS, she further demonstrated during her tenure as Chair an uncanny talent for guiding, summarizing and
<br /> amplifying the perspectives of each Board member, and
<br /> WHEREAS , through her boundless energy and keen insight of the problems of County Government and the concerns of
<br /> the citizens of Orange County with her sincere and impartial judgments has shown to this Board and to the
<br /> people of Orange County a pathway towards better local government, and
<br /> WHEREAS, Anne C. Barnes, since assuming office in December 1978, has well served all the citizens of Orange County as a
<br /> member of this Board and has given freely and unselfishly of her time and her talents and through her service
<br /> on the Council on Aging, the Agricultural Task Force, the CETA Advisory Council and the Board of Social
<br /> Services, has promoted and helped to develop many progressive changes in all aspects of Orange County
<br /> Government, and
<br /> WHEREAS , Anne C. Barnes , having served three years in the Office of County Commissioner of Orange County was
<br /> appointed by Governor James B. Hunt, Jr_ , to the North Carolina House of Representatives in December
<br /> 1981 , and
<br /> WHEREAS, through her appointment to the House of Representatives , she will continue her tradition of unfailing
<br /> devotion and dedication to the people of Orange County and extend her devotion , her ideas, as well as her
<br /> dynamic and gracious leadership to the State.
<br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED , that the Board of Commissioners , acting through its members on behalf of the
<br /> citizens of Orange County, takes this means of expressing to Anne C. Barnes its sincere appreciation and deep
<br /> gratitude for her faithful service, able leadership , and progressive ideas , and
<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED , that it wishes for her and her family every happiness in the years ahead and directs this
<br /> Resolution be presented to Anne C . Barnes , with a copy sent to the press , and the Resolution be spread on the
<br /> Minutes of this meeting, this 13th day of December 1981 .
