Construction Documents <br />20052.02 / Orange County - Justice <br />Facility <br />26 0553 - 3 IDENTIFICATION FOR ELECTRICAL <br />SYSTEMS <br />E.Identification for Devices: <br />1.Wiring Device and Wallplate Finishes: Comply with Section 26 2726. <br />2.Use identification label to identify fire alarm system devices. <br />3.For devices concealed above suspended ceilings, provide additional identification on <br />ceiling tile below device location. <br />4.Use identification label to identify receptacles protected by upstream GFI protection, where <br />permitted. <br />F.Color Coding <br />1.Phenolic Nameplates and associated conduit and boxes shall be identified with the <br />following color scheme. Note: For existing buildings the contractor shall field verify the <br />existing building standard and revise the color scheme to match the existing field <br />conditions. Failure to match existing conditions will result in the contractor correcting the <br />mislabeled equipment at his expense. <br />a.Blue surface white core - 120/208V equipment. <br />b.Black surface white core - 277/480V equipment. <br />c.Bright red surface white core - fire alarm equipment. <br />d.Dark red (burgundy) surface white core - security equipment. <br />e.Green surface white core - emergency systems. <br />f.Orange surface white core - telephone systems. <br />g.Brown surface white core - data systems. <br />h.White surface black core - paging systems. <br />i.Purple surface white core - TV systems. <br />2.02 IDENTIFICATION NAMEPLATES AND LABELS <br />A.Identification Nameplates: <br />1.Materials: <br />a.Indoor Clean, Dry Locations: Use plastic nameplates. <br />b.Outdoor Locations: Use plastic nameplates suitable for exterior use. <br />2.Plastic Nameplates: Two-layer or three-layer laminated electrically non-conductive <br />phenolic with beveled edges; minimum thickness of 1/16 inch (1.6 mm); engraved text. <br />3.Mounting Holes for Mechanical Fasteners: Two, centered on sides for sizes up to 1 inch <br />(25 mm) high; Four, located at corners for larger sizes. <br />4.Nameplates shall be secured with self tapping stainless steel screws; if screws have sharp <br />ends they shall be protected, otherwise rivets shall be used. <br />B.Identification Labels: <br />1.Materials: Use self-adhesive laminated plastic labels; UV, chemical, water, heat, and <br />abrasion resistant. <br />a.Use only for indoor locations. <br />2.Text: Use factory pre-printed or machine-printed text. Do not use handwritten text. <br />C.Format for Equipment Identification: <br />1.Minimum Size: 1 inch (25 mm) by 2.5 inches (64 mm). <br />2.Text: All capitalized unless otherwise indicated. <br />3.Minimum Text Height: <br />a.Equipment Designation: 1/2 inch (13 mm). <br />b.Exception: Provide minimum text height of 1 inch (25 mm) for equipment located <br />more than 10 feet (3.0 m) above floor or working platform. <br />D.Wiring device circuit labels. <br />1.All wiring devices (receptacles and switches) shall be labeled with the circuit serving the <br />device. Label shall be a typed adhesive label affixed to the front of the wiring device face <br />plate.
