Asbestos Abatement Guidelines and Policies <br />Page 01043-2 <br />SECTION 01043 <br /> <br />PROJECT COORDINATION <br /> <br />1.02 PERSONNEL <br /> <br /> A. Supervisor <br /> <br /> 1. Supervisors shall be accredited by the North Carolina Health Hazards Control <br />Unit (HHCU). <br /> <br /> 2. Supervisors on the project shall have two years experience in the administration <br />and supervision of asbestos abatement projects including work practices, <br />protective measures for building and personnel, disposal procedures, etc. <br /> <br /> 3. One supervisor shall be provided for every 10 workers inside the containment. <br />A minimum of one supervisor shall be provided per project. <br /> <br /> 4. The contractor shall have at least one employee on the job site in either a <br />foreman or supervisor's position who is bilingual in the appropriate languages <br />when employing workers who do not speak fluent English. <br /> <br /> 5. A minimum of one supervisor per company shall have attended a 24-hour <br />respiratory protection course. <br /> <br /> B. Worker <br /> <br /> 1. Workers shall be accredited by the HHCU. <br /> <br /> C. Competent Person <br /> <br /> 1. A competent person, as defined in the OSHA asbestos standard 29 CFR <br />1926.1101, employed by the contractor must be outside the work area at all <br />times to monitor activity, ensure containment security, provide information to <br />visitors, and provide access to the work area. <br /> <br /> D. Employees <br /> <br /> 1. The contractor is responsible for the behavior of workers within his <br />employment. If at any time during the contracted work, any of his employees <br />are judged to exhibit behavior unfitting for the area or judged to be a nuisance <br />by the owner or designer, the contractor shall remove them immediately from <br />the project. <br /> <br /> 2.
