Carolina Orange County is seeking a qualified and experienced archaeologist(s) to conduct a survey of cultural and. archaeological resources within the proposed Northern Human Services Center Park. The information ~ will be used for siting future park facilities, and for identifying areas of historic and cultural interest for interpretation. The property is owned by Orange County, and. is located approximately 10 miles north of Hillsborough on NC Hwy. 86, at and adjacent to, the existing Northern Human Services Center. All three tracts can be accessed directly from NC Hwy. 86. The site consists of: 9.28 acres at the Northern Human Services Center (NHSC), which includes a former school building. and playfields; a 39.02-acre parcel adjacent to the NHSC which contains a portion of an' existing pond; and a 12.22-acre parcel located on the east side of NC Hwy. 86 directly across from the NHSC. The eastern tract, known as the Vincent Property, is the site of a modest turn-of-the-century farmstead; a circa 1910 (- house and a handful of associated outbuildings remain on the property in poor condition.
