W hat are you requesting funding for? Operational expense (arts organizations ONLY) Request Summary W e respectfully request FY21 salary support for Allison Portnow Lathrop, Head of Public Programs. Allison designs, manages, and implements the Ackland’s div erse set of public programs, working to identify new audiences and plan for sustainable audience growth. In typical years, Allison and Lindsey Hale, Public Programs Coordinator, engage ov er 6,000 community members in dynamic, art-focused experiences. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the v irtual v ersions of artist talks, performances, art-making classes, and family programs hav e drawn considerably larger audiences, frequently at lev els we could not accommodate in our building. W e expect all our Fall 2020 public programs to be v irtual, and to continue offering some v irtual presentations of our programs after we are able to resume in-person activ ities, to maximize our reach. Based on their initial forays into v irtual programming, Allison and Lindsey hav e a solid foundation upon which to build. Based on the success of the FY20 programming inspired by Project LHAXX, Intergalactic Soul’s installation in the Ackland ART& gallery space, Allison and Lauren Turner, Assistant Curator for the Collection, will organize and present programs featuring the art and v oices of BIPOC and LGBTQ identifying artists, among them our next ART& artist, Atlanta-based Shanequa Gay, who explores Black female identity, and Nelson Morales, whose photographs exploring sexual div ersity and identity among Oaxacan muxes will be on loan to the Ackland through the academic year. In addition to talks and workshops with these artists, our slate of programs will include v irtual film screenings, art making classes, book discussions, and more.
