Community Impact This cooperativ e exhibition has prov en to be a v aluable asset to <br />Orange County in that it is prov iding an excellent v enue to attract the <br />public from as far away as all the bordering states of North Carolina. <br />The show has a substantial draw because the exhibiting artists hav e <br />consistently been professional, nationally recognized artists with <br />strong followings. It also prov ides an outdoor setting with shared <br />expenses for local sculptors to exhibit and sell their work. The high <br />caliber of the artist exhibiting enhances the reputation of our county <br />as a place where artistic excellence is flourishing. <br />The selection process is to inv ite artists who meet criteria of <br />excellence and professionalism. Once artists are participating, I <br />welcome their recommendations to inv ite future artists as guests. By <br />inv iting some different guest artist each year, it keeps the annual <br />show exciting for the patrons. I also attempt to keep at least half of <br />the artists Orange County residents to support the local art scene. I <br />hav e dev eloped a website specifically for this once a year ev ent <br />under the name Garden Art Gallery Inv itational (http://www.garden- <br />art-gallery.com) so that I can continue to promote the show <br />throughout the year. Past exhibitors are also featured on the website. <br />Ov er half of the sculptors are from Orange County. All of the the <br />artists are able to enjoy excellent sales without a great deal of <br />ov erhead. They also take commissions in the spring that last <br />throughout the year. <br />Artist Experience I hav e been a professional artist for 40 years. In 1994, I created ‘The <br />Art in the Garden Sculpture Inv itational’ exhibition. I hav e organized <br />this ev ent for 25 years.
