W ith the Inn's preserv ation almost complete, I wanted to contribute to
honoring the past and looking towards its' future. Although I knew tackling the history of this magnificent 250-year
old structure would be a great feat, I nev er expected the ov erwhelming response regarding those willing to share
their own Colonial Inn stories. Waitresses, cooks, Innkeepers, and ancestors; stories upon stories sharing
personal perspectiv es of life at the Inn. Additionally, many hav e shared precious memories; wedding celebrations,
honeymoon stays, family dinner, community ev ents. It has become clear how much the Colonial Inns means to
this community and those who have had the pleasure of experiencing it's treasured halls. This project is no longer
a simple v enture but will reflect the liv ing significance the Colonial Inn holds for many.
I plan to hav e the project completed by January 2021. I am currently seeking publishers but hav e also been
consulting self-publishing with a local printer. I would prefer to work on distribution myself, partnering with local
bookstores as well as the Hillsborough and Orange Country Visitor Centers for circulation. The owners of the
Colonial Inn hav e strong support for this project and hav e been most willing to help in any way. Approv al was
granted by Elise Tyler of the Colonial Inn owernship and management team before beginning this project. I hav e
also reached out to local artists to feature their work in the book if desired.
Community Impact The Colonial Inn is not only a historic staple to the town of Hillsborough, but owned by the hearts of many that liv e
near and far. Being able to capture the history of this beloved structure is only one feature of this project. The
majority of this book will pay tribute to the community responsible for the building the Colonial Inn.
Although I am the author of this book, this project will be written by many v oices. From the Innkeepers and
caretakers to those who simply share an memory, this book is a compilation of Hillsborough v oices and v oices
who share a love for the Colonial Inn. The project is a dedication to the Colonial Inn and all who hav e lov ed this
structure for 250 years.
Artist Experience This project will be my first historical non-fiction work. My career background is in fitness and education, not
exactly related to this book. With that being said, I hav e spent the last four to fiv e years composing science-based
fitness articles and establishing non-fiction texts for a certification company.
I hav e included a sample of the book. The pages contain a small outline of a timeline before the lot became the
Colonial Inn and an example of a biography of one of the Inns early owners. The pages have not been proofed or
cited, as they are a rough mock-up to prov ide a sample.
DocuSign Envelope ID: 1ADE5D14-5E36-42BF-9C3D-FF8506DB0362
