Audience Description The audience will be approximately 1000 fifth grade students at all 11 <br />of the CHCCS elementary schools. The estimated racial background <br />of these students is: 1% American Indian; 14% Asian; 17% Hispanic; <br />11% Black; 50% white; and 7% Other. <br />Location Description If students are attending schools in the second semester, the three <br />concert sessions are expected to take place in one of our high <br />school in March 2021. If distance learning is still in place in the Spring <br />of 2021, then the concert series could take place v irtually. <br />Artist Description The NC Central Univ ersity Big Bands, including the Jazz Ensemble, <br />are under the direction of Dr. Ira W iggins. They hav e earned top <br />honors at numerous American and international festiv als and hav e <br />twice performed at the W hite House. Performances hav e featured <br />many jazz greats, including Jimmy Heath, Branford Marsalis, Joey <br />Calderazzo, James Moody, Keith Copeland, Donald Brown, Kenny <br />Burrell, Roy Hargrov e, The Count Basie Orchestra, Clarence Seay, <br />Frank Foster, Curtis Fuller, Ed Thigpen, Louie Bellson, Grady Tate, <br />Alv in Baptiste, Clark Terry, Ellis Marsalis, Dick Oatts, Terell Stafford, <br />Stev e W ilson, Vanessa Rubin, Nicholas Payton, Fred W esley, Maceo <br />Parker, Freddie Cole, Antonio Hart, Nnenna Freelon and others. <br />Are you hiring <br />multicultural artists <br />with the requested <br />funds from this <br />grant? <br />Yes <br />For each multicultural <br />artist you intend to <br />hire, please list their <br />name, race, and how <br />much you plan to pay <br />them. <br />The Director of the NC Central Jazz Ensemble is black as are a <br />majority of the members. The group will be paid $1,500. <br />How will the <br />project/program be <br />publicized and <br />promoted to reach <br />intended <br />participants? <br />All CHCCS District fifth grade teachers as well as the music teachers <br />at each of the 11 elementary schools will be made aware of the <br />concert date and schedule for when their school should attend. If <br />classes are still being held v irtually in Spring of 2021, then teachers <br />will prov ide links to students so they can join the concerts v irtually. <br />How will you <br />evaluate the success <br />of the program? <br />After the performance, a surv ey will be sent to all of the elementary <br />music teachers. It will gather data on teacher perceptions of the <br />logistics, the concert concept, the quality of the performance, the <br />quality of the preparation materials, student engagement, impact on <br />students, and other observ ations about the experience. <br />PROJECT/PROGRAM <br />BUDGET <br />Please fill out the charts below with your project's expenses and <br />income.
