W e would <br />like to start the tradition of hav ing fifth grade students see the NC <br />Jazz Ensemble from NC Central Univ ersity. Jazz is a unique music <br />genre that started in African-American communities in the United <br />States. The opportunity for students to see the NC Central Jazz <br />Ensemble will allow them to see numerous musicians of color in <br />action and will also support the fifth grade Social Studies curriculum <br />as they learn about the origins of jazz music in our country. <br />Project Start Date <br />(no earlier than July <br />1, 2020) <br />February 2021 <br />Project End Date (no <br />later than June 30, <br />2021) <br />June 2021 <br />Project Goals -Introduce CHCCS fifth graders to jazz music through concert <br />sessions with the NC Central Jazz Ensemble. <br />-Educate students on the origins of jazz music in the US in African- <br />American communities in New Orleans as part of their fifth grade <br />Social Studies curriculum that focuses on US History. <br />-Make students aware of local music opportunities. <br />-Make students aware of potential areas for post-high school study in <br />music at nearby colleges and univ ersities. <br />-Excite students about types of music they can earn to play so that <br />many will be interested in joining band or orchestra as they enter <br />middle school next year. <br />DocuSign Envelope ID: 152B1521-01A5-4C37-B31E-1BE2D00774F3
