Artist Experience I had a similar project in 2017, it too was called To See and Be Seen, <br />To Know and Be Known. After the August 12th incidents in my town <br />of Charlottesv ille, I felt called to paint residents there who may feel <br />inv isible — whose struggles might be misunderstood, and whose <br />inner strengths often go unrecognized. It first was exhibited at The <br />McGuffey Art Center, across the street from where the Charlottesv ille <br />riots raged. The show was well receiv ed by the community as well as <br />the media. It was also exhibited in sev eral churches and schools in <br />Charlottesv ille. Attendees said they were mov ed to tears and thanked <br />me numerous times for the project. Also, quite unexpectedly, I <br />became v ery close to a few of the people whose portraits I painted. I <br />think it's because I took the time to get to know them, showing them <br />respect and dignity through the portraits I painted and the time I <br />spent with them.
