Artist Experience W ith dual MFA and Med degrees, I hav e completed ov er 30 <br />community projects supported by county and state arts grants ov er <br />25 years of work promoting multicultural and inclusiv e art <br />opportunities. <br />Recent grant funded programs <br />“Rockin’ the Spectrum” and “Autism Awareness, Div erse Abilities,” a <br />permanent installation of portraits of children in an adapted aquatics <br />swim class at the Homestead Aquatic Center exhibitions, educational <br />seminars, discussion groups for parents, special education teachers, <br />artists, and arts administrators, performance and exhibition <br />showcasing art from adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder. NC Arts <br />and Humanities Project Award, 2015. Chapel Hill Public and Cultural <br />Arts Commission, Into the Streets, 2014. <br />“Visitations, Gifts for Imani” an ongoing exhibition of portraits <br />rendered as impressionistic art composites of historical photographs <br />from NC Poet Laureate Jaki Shelton Green’s family archiv es. The <br />initial project included a poetry reading with a call-and-response <br />musical performance, a publication of the poem and artwork. The <br />opening celebratory ev ent serv ed as a family reunion to honor the <br />life and death of Jaki’s daughter, Imani. The Fence award, 2018 <br />Arts and Humanities Programs and Teaching <br />“Mothers and Strangers, and The W riter’s Life, my latest project, is a <br />series of portraits in response to essays in Samia Serageldin and Lee <br />Smith’s book, Mothers and Strangers including readings by the <br />authors. <br />As artist and educator, my work is exhibited in galleries, univ ersities, <br />priv ate collections, and non-traditional public art spaces. I offer <br />photographic seminars, workshops, and indiv idual consultation.
