Audience Description These v irtual extra curricular arts classes are intended for ISLA's
nearly 200, largely low-income, Spanish-speaking Latinx students
and their families. Classes will be div ided up, based on age in order
to ensure that they are meeting the students at their dev elopmental
stage, but will be open and encourage the entire family to get
inv olv ed and learning something new and fun! Additionally, as the
class recordings will be freely av ailable v ia youtube we hope that they
will be a v aluable resource to Spanish speakers and Spanish
language learners, in the broader Chapel-Hill/Durham community and
beyond.
Location Description As ISLA has mov ed online this year the interactiv e webinar style
extra curricular classes that will be offered through this project will be
accessible through a digital platform for our students and their
families. Recordings of these classes will then be av ailable to the
general public v ia our youtube channel, so that the broader
community can hav e access to these high quality Spanish language
arts and cultural experiences!
Artist Description ISLA has two artists on staff who regularly teach art and music
classes for ISLA's heritage language students, as well as for ISLA's
social enterprise SEPA, which generates part of the income that
keeps ISLA's heritage language programming free for Spanish
speaking students and families. Pav elid Castaneda is a musician, as
well as educator with ov er 30 years of experience. He has been
inspiring ISLA students for years in his classroom and we are excited
to bring his lessons and talents to more of our ISLA students and the
broader community through this project. Bryan Ramirez is a v isual
artist and digital guru! He has played a fundamental role in bringing
the arts with us as we transitioned our serv ices online and he has a
way of capturing students' attention across the digital div ide while
teaching fundamental lessons about shapes, colores and shading
that are rolled together with cultural tidbits! ISLA is so proud to work
with these two phenomenal artists and educators and we appreciate
them taking the lead to help us select other artists in the areas of
dance (Latin traditional and contemporary dances) and theater who
like them are also inspiring educators.
Are you hiring
multicultural artists
with the requested
funds from this
grant?
Yes
For each multicultural
artist you intend to
hire, please list their
name, race, and how
much you plan to pay
them.
Pav elid Castaneda, Latino, $800
Bryan Ramirez, Latino, $800
Outside contracted artists combined, Latinx, $770
DocuSign Envelope ID: CBAB0CFC-0EC0-479E-9AFB-49B5E0339C83
