Artist Experience Most of my work has been centered around the famous fiddler, <br />Joseph Aquilla Thompson of Mebane. Initially, I conducted interv iews, <br />transcribed them and donated copies to the local libraries. Then I <br />produced the film, The Life and Times of Joe Thompson, which was <br />selected by PBS as one of the top ten films in 2004. It also was <br />recognized as a finalist at the 25th Annual Telly Awards. From the <br />documentary, I dev eloped an exhibit called "W ho is Joseph <br />Thompson?," which is housed at the Mebane Museum and has been <br />v iewed by thousands of guests. It is an interactiv e exhibit and many <br />kids hav e enjoyed pushing buttons to v iew it. Recently, I'v e been <br />instrumental in getting our City Council to prov ide funds to erect <br />statues to commemorate Joe and Odell Thompson, and we had <br />planned a major ev ent to commemorate the string band duo with <br />many of the Joe’s friends and the Chocolate Drops, but the <br />pandemic was at its height on April 5, the date for this culmination. <br />In 2014, I receiv ed a grant from the Orange County Arts Commission <br />to fund the painting of the mural at Central High. I directed that <br />project, but the local artist was Amos Stokes, now deceased. Lately, I <br />hav e also worked with an Elon Professor (v ideographer, Ryan W itt) <br />and directed a v ideo production on my Dad, "The Life of George <br />Thompson," which we hope to share at his 100th birthday in January <br />2021. <br />PROJECT/PROGRAM <br />BUDGET <br />Please fill out the charts below with your project's expenses and <br />income.
