27
• The RFP process—the process hasn't changed; it used to be in another policy and has been moved
into the JCPC operations policy.
• Revisions to Oversight and Monitoring that programs will need to be very familiar with. There
were revisions to clarify steps that need to be taken if a critical or non-critical program standard
violation occurs. This has always been included in policy but has been refined.
Hot Topics
Tanury is concerned about the youth that they are not able to connect with because of COVID restrictions
and she worried that they are not receiving the level of support that they may need because of it.
Boomerang has had some people reach out about whether they could be a place where students could go
to get some structure,do schoolwork and get some help/support. Boomerang space is pretty small and
they don't currently have policies approved yet for in-person contact during COVID.
Charlos stated that they are doing a program at Phoenix academy that is an extension of a program that
was already being offered to high school student who were not able to work with their traditional school
scheduled due to other obligations. Traditionally they have only served 12 students but has expanded it to
serve up to 30 students and are providing some face-to-face support. This is occurring in the evenings
because the target group is typically seniors who only have a couple credits remaining to graduate and
may have had to take a job to help support their families.
Q: Is there any opportunity for kids to do that during the day at Phoenix?
A: Phoenix has a small staff and there would need to be a conversation with the principal. They do not
have the capacity to broadly open it up to all students, so there would need to be specific set of criteria
identified. It is worth a conversation since they haven't determined that they are returning before January.
Some Orange County School board members are looking at learning pods, which is basically what
Tammy was describing. This came about because there are kids in rural areas of the county that do not
have internet access and need both internet access and supervision. They have reached out to different
community sites to see about the possibility of opening these up, but doesn't know what the status is.
Some of Orange County Recreation Department's centers have been discussed as possible locations and
Robyn stated that some of the department's conversations have centered on how they would enforce mask
wearing and other COVID safety protocols.
Upcoming JCPC Meetings
January 20,2021 • 2pm
Risk&Needs Committee
Virtual GoToMeeting
February 5, 2021 • 12pm
JCPC Meeting
Virtual GoToMeeting
