10 <br /> Commissioner McKee read the proclamation: <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> Older Americans Month — May 2021 <br /> Theme— "Communities of Strength" <br /> Whereas, Orange County includes over 30,000 persons aged 60 and older who have built <br /> resilience and strength over their lives through successes and difficulties; and <br /> Whereas, Orange County benefits when people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds are <br /> included and encouraged to share their successes and stories of resilience; and <br /> Whereas, Orange County recognizes our need to nurture ourselves, reinforce our strength, <br /> and continue to thrive in times of both joy and difficulty; and <br /> Whereas, Orange County can foster communities of strength by: <br /> • creating opportunities to share stories and learn from each other; <br /> • engaging older adults through education, recreation, and service; and <br /> • encouraging people of all ages to celebrate connections and resilience. <br /> Now, therefore, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim May <br /> 2021 to be Older Americans Month, and urge every resident to recognize older adults and <br /> the people who support them as essential contributors to the strength of our community. <br /> The 4th day of May, 2021. <br /> Renee Price, Chair <br /> Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Fowler, to <br /> approve and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br /> Roll call ensued <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> Janice Tyler, Department of Aging Director, thanked the Board, staff, and volunteers <br /> who supported the Department of Aging during the pandemic, including the provision of meals, <br /> delivery of medication, phone calls to the isolated, etc. She said programs were converted into <br /> the virtual environment during the pandemic, and this year has brought the community together <br /> and made it stronger. <br /> Heather Altman, Advisory Board on Aging Chair, said Orange County is a strong <br /> community, and the older adults contribute a great deal, including Roy Williams. She <br /> recognized Janice Tyler for her work in the department, and the tireless efforts to provide a <br /> comprehensive range of support to 30,000 people and their families.
