During the autumn of 2004, Orange EMS & Rescue Squad split into two separate
entities, Orange County Rescue Squad in Hillsborough and South Orange Rescue in Carrboro,
A Memorandum of Understanding between the County and the two rescue squads continued
the existing collaborative efforts in providing special events EMS coverage and in the joint use
of squad-owned space to base EMS units. The agreement and memorandum provided for
ongoing collaboration between the agencies in the provision of EMS service at special events,
the leasing of space in Squad facilities far use by the County, and the provision of services and
equipment by the County for the Squads, The two squads have satisfactorily executed their
respective responsibilities under the agreement during the 2004-05 fiscal year,
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The terms of the agreement call for the County to pay the Squads the
total amount of $4,588 per month for rent and utilities for station space. Funding to cover
continuation of this agreement for 2005-06 has been included in the department's FY 05-06
budget.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the agreements
with Orange County Rescue Squad and South Orange Rescue Squad through June 30, 2006,
subject to final review by staff and the County Attorney, and authorize the Chair to sign,
