28
Slide #31
Public Outreach
• Outreach Content:
-Context of the Suckhorn Area Plan(Study)
-Annexation
-Mow will public comments affect the outcome?
-Tools for public knowledge of plans
-Timelnelnotification for June 1 BOCC meeting
• After the outreach meeting,Orange County
Planning will report back to the BOCC at the
June 1,2021 Business Meeting and receive any
additional direction from the Board,possibly_
including additional outreach. i r e_r.IT
31
Tom Altieri said the purpose of the May 17 meeting will be to offer a brief staff
presentation, and allow most of the time for questions. He said staff wants to help inform to
move the process forward. He said an FAQ would be developed and brought back to the
BOCC. He said staff will address the Buckhorn Area Plan, its history, and how Areas A and B
relate to existing County plans. He said an annexation 101 lesson will also be provided, along
with the potential impact of the public comments.
Slide 32
Questions?
ORANGECOUNTY
wrcnr cumiiv.32
Chair Price asked if residents on Preston Loop are connected to water and sewer.
Craig Benedict said no, as there is no gravity there, specifically, but they can hook on to
water if they wanted with an adjacent water supply.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
Catherine Matthews said read the following statement:
Good evening County Commissioners. Two weeks ago, I came here to talk to you about
President Biden's executive order to protect 30% of our lands and oceans by 2030 a plan
widely known as 30 by 30. Tonight, I want to address a concern that was raised by
Commissioner Dorosin at the last public meeting following public comments. Commissioner
Dorosin indicated that he wouldn't be surprised if Orange County hadn't already protected 30%
of our county land. But, Commissioner Dorosin get ready for a surprise.
According to Orange County's Land Conservation Manager, Mr. Chris Hirni, approximately 10%
of Orange County lands has some protection. However, two-fifths of that 10% of land is only
partially protected and will remain partially protected because those lands are Duke Forest
lands. Therefore, only 6% of Orange County lands are now protected in perpetuity. We are not
in front of the curve, but far behind it.
