She said she <br /> has 5 people in her family, and they were approved for a Habitat house last fall. She said a <br /> family with a home is a lot healthier and happier. She said many families are interested in <br /> home ownership, because rentals are expensive and unstable. She said many friends have <br /> asked when Habitat will build more homes, and her family's healthy relationship with Habitat <br /> makes people feel confident in Habitat's services. She said she supports Habitat's request for <br /> funding they build stable and affordable housing. She said her family is happier and <br /> emotionally stronger knowing they have a home. She said Habitat is an amazing organization. <br /> Candace Midgett said she is a resident and homeowner at Crescent Magnolia in <br /> Hillsborough, and she supports Habitat's application for HOME funds. She said residents <br /> choose to live in Crescent Magnolia community for permanency, continuing support and <br /> affordability. She said the expectation of a permanent home is reasonable because the <br /> community has been established for people to age in place. She said continuing support is <br /> important to people in Crescent Magnolia, and many have chosen to stay in Orange County has <br /> there are excellent services for seniors. She said she lives in a strong community that supports <br /> each other. She said these homes are affordable on a senior income, with help from Habitat <br /> and Town of Hillsborough. She said Orange County housing costs often exceed 30% of one's <br /> income. She said most residents of Crescent Magnolia are single women, and invited the <br /> Commissioners to visit. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Bedford, seconded by Commissioner Hamilton to <br /> close the public hearing. <br /> Roll call ensued <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> Chair Price asked if an explanation of the local match could be provided. <br />
