DocuSign Envelope ID:81 E05E8E-EED7-43D3-8B8A-0811 OE72140A <br /> SECTION 31 00 00 - CLEARING, GRADING AND EXCAVATION <br /> PART 1 - GENERAL <br /> 1.1 DESCRIPTION OF WORK <br /> A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and <br /> Supplemental Conditions and Division I Specification Sections, apply to <br /> this Section. <br /> B. This item shall consist of the removal and satisfactory disposal of all <br /> materials excavated within the limits specified by the Engineer including <br /> the road right-of-way, unsuitable subgrade material, and the replacement <br /> with satisfactory materials and such excavation as is necessary for berm, <br /> inlet, outlet, and lateral drainage ditches and for the formation, <br /> compaction, and shaping of all embankments, fills, subgrade, shoulders, <br /> slopes, and roadways to conform to the lines and grades and typical <br /> cross-sections shown on the Plans. <br /> C. It shall also include the removal and proper disposal of all stripping, fence, <br /> trees, hedge rows, pipes, walls, steps and existing asphalt and concrete <br /> surfaces, existing sidewalk and curb and gutter, raising and/or adjusting <br /> the tops of all existing valve boxes and manhole tops, as required. <br /> 1.2 RELATED WORK IN OTHER SECTIONS <br /> A. Control of Erosion, Siltation, and Pollution: Section 31 25 00 <br /> B. Seeding and Mulching: Section 32 92 00 <br /> 1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE <br /> A. Contractor shall consult with the Owner and the Engineer prior to <br /> beginning clearing. A full understanding shall be reached as to procedure. <br /> The Contractor shall then conduct clearing and/or grubbing operations in <br /> strict accordance with these agreements. <br /> B. Compaction shall be completed in accordance with the standards of <br /> ASTM D-698 as amended. <br /> C. The Owner shall retain the services of a testing laboratory to perform all <br /> tests required at the project site. In areas of fill and backfill, field density <br /> tests shall be performed in sufficient numbers to insure that the specified <br /> density is obtained. These tests shall be made at no cost to the <br /> Contractor, except as follows. <br /> 1. Areas in which testing reveals compaction below the specified <br /> density shall be reworked, or removed and replaced by the <br /> Contractor until specified compaction is obtained.
