24 1 Cait Fenhagen said she appreciates Chair Price's comments. She said this has to be an 2 Orange County facility or it will lose the law enforcement and EMS diversion connection. She 3 said this presentation was also made to law enforcement chiefs, and each one supports the 4 idea, along with the courts and Emergency Management Services (EMS). 5 Commissioner Fowler said it is a shame that there is not an efficiency of scale, but she 6 agrees it needs to be an Orange County facility. She said this will be much better than being 7 taken to an emergency department. 8 Commissioner Bedford said she supports moving forward with next steps, as there is a 9 critical need. She said the schools were involved, as well as other non-profits. She said there 10 was a desire to do more, but the county needs to start smaller and grow from there. She said 11 the goal is to service those most in need, and she hopes to bring in more non-profits to expand 12 with time. 13 Commissioner McKee echoed previous comments, and support moving forward. 14 Commissioner Dorosin agreed. 15 Chair Price said next steps would be working with county staff on data and numbers to 16 bring back to the BOCC for a future presentation. 17 18 3. Arts Commission —Appointment Discussion 19 The Board discussed an appointment to the Arts Commission. 20 21 BACKGROUND: 22 The following appointment information is for Board consideration. 23 NAME SPECIAL TYPE OF EXPIRATION REPRESENTATIVE APPOINTMENT DATE TERM Sarah Shore At-Large First Full Term 03/31/2024 24 25 26 NOTE - If the individuals listed above are appointed, the following vacancies remain: 27 28 None 29 30 Tara May introduced the item. 31 Commissioner Bedford said Sarah Shore was the only applicant for the Historic 32 Preservation Commission (HPC), and she does not want to put a person on more than one 33 board. She said Lamar Richards might be a strong contender for the Arts Commission. 34 Tara May said Lamar Richards is now UNC Student Body President, and is likely very 35 busy, but she can continue to try and reach him. 36 Commissioner Bedford said there are other applicants for the Arts Commission, whereas 37 the Historic Preservation Commission has no other applicants. 38 Commissioner Dorosin said she is the only applicant for the HPC. 39 Chair Price said one can serve on two boards. 40 Commissioner Greene said she would like to honor the Arts Commission's 41 recommendation. She said if Shore's recommendation is not desired by the BOCC, then she 42 asks that the Board defer a decision about the Arts Commission to a later date to give it time to 43 come back with an alternative recommendation. 44 Commissioner Dorosin said he supports putting Sarah Shore on the HPC only, and 45 going back to the Arts Commission for an alternative recommendation. He said while one can 46 serve on two boards, he would like to avoid it, when possible.
