2 <br /> Student Enrollment Projections for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools: <br /> Based on DPI projections, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School District enrollment for fiscal year <br /> 2021-22 totals 12,448, reflecting an increase of 136 students when compared to the March 2020 <br /> projections. The district has a current enrollment, as of March 2021, of 156 charter students, which <br /> represents a decrease of 10 students from March 2020. Out of district students are budgeted at <br /> 253, 2 more than budgeted in the current fiscal year. This brings the total district enrollment to <br /> 12,351 for FY 2021-22, for an overall increase of 124 budgeted students when compared to FY <br /> 2020-21. <br /> Student Enrollment Projections for the Orange County Schools: <br /> Based on DPI projections, the Orange County School district enrollment for fiscal year 2021-22 <br /> totals 7,299, a decrease of 82 students from the March 2020 projections. The district continues to <br /> experience a growing number of charter students, with a current enrollment, as of March 2021, of <br /> 919 students, which represents an increase of 34 students from March 2020. Out of district <br /> students are budgeted at 108 students; 2 less than budgeted in the current fiscal year. This brings <br /> the total district enrollment to 8,110 for FY 2021-22, for an overall decrease of 46 budgeted <br /> students when compared to FY 2020-21. <br /> The General Assembly requires school systems to pay a per pupil allotment to support charter <br /> students within their district. <br /> School Districts Budget Requests <br /> Both School Districts requested increases in per pupil funding for FY 2021-22. <br /> Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools requested an increase of $8,033,000 in continuation and <br /> expansion funding, with a $650.39 per pupil increase, in FY 2021-22. This would provide a total <br /> current expense funding of$61,764,203. This requested increase in the local per pupil allocation <br /> for current expenses would increase the per pupil allocation from $4,367 to $5,017.39. <br /> Orange County Schools is requested an increase of $2,893,572 in continuation and expansion <br /> funding, with a $357 per pupil increase, in FY 2021-22. This would provide a total current expense <br /> funding of $38,309,942. This requested increase in the local per pupil allocation for current <br /> expenses would increase the per pupil allocation from $4,367 to $4,724. <br /> Current Expense <br /> The recommended appropriations for Chapel Hill-Carrboro City and Orange County Schools <br /> increases the current expense funding by$340,626 in FY 2021-22. This includes per pupil funding <br /> to remain at the current $4,367 for each of the 20,461 students in the two school systems. Local <br /> Current Expense funding supplements State and Federal funds received by each district for the <br /> day-to-day operation of schools. Examples of expenses paid from these funds include salaries <br /> and benefits for locally paid teachers and utilities. North Carolina statutes mandate boards of <br /> county commissioners to provide local current expense monies to school districts. Counties <br /> having more than one school administrative unit, as is the case in Orange County, are required <br /> to provide equal per pupil appropriations to each system. <br />
