Please briefly describe the proposed program, including an explanation of how it <br /> aligns with the Town of Chapel Hill and Carrboro's Results Framework, and Grange <br /> County BOCC Goals and Priorities, and the target population to benefit from the <br /> program. (100 words or less). <br /> In order to make the best use of time and resources, the Alliance for Historic <br /> Hillsborough and the Historic Hillsborough Commission have established a <br /> managerial relationship for the purpose of improving efficiency and <br /> effectiveness of visitor services at the Burwell School Historic Site. The <br /> employees at the Burwell School will be supervised and employed through the <br /> Alliance which will also oversee other aspects of operations, with full input at <br /> from the Historic Hillsborough Commission regarding program content and <br /> planning. This aligns in particular with the following BOCC goal: <br /> "Ensure a high quality of life and lifelong learning that champions diversity, <br /> education at all levels, libraries, parks, recreation, and animal welfare." <br /> The Burwell School has been an instrumental part of Hillsborough and Orange <br /> County's historic built landscape since the 1970's. We welcome visitors of all <br /> ages annually and encourage them to learn about the early girls' academy <br /> here, the story of Burwell enslaved servant Elizabeth Keckly, the refuge of the <br /> Collins family during the Civil War, and life in the 19t" century. The target <br /> populations for the visitor services are adults and children of all ages and <br /> backgrounds, for whom tours, lessons and experiences are carefully <br /> researched and offered.
