EA
proposed Orange Grove Road Development
Traffic Impact Study
5. TRIP GENERATION
An evaluation of anticipated traffic Impact an the sum sun ing roadway network
requires an estimation of site - generated traffic volumes, which are then added to
the projectad background traffic volumes. These combined volumes are used to
test the adequacy of the adjacent highway network. This chapter summarizes
this evaluation.
proposed Deoelayment
The proposed development Is planned as an apartment complex with 10
buildings consisting of Pk units each for a total of 240 ends.
Prorooeed Access Points
Access into the proposed development is planned via one full movement
driveway on G range Grove Road
Trip Generation
The amount of traffic generated by a new, development is a function of the size
and type of development. Once the proposed land use data for the site us
known, the number, of trips generated by the development can be estimated.
Trip generation data for Us report was determined in accordance with the
procedures outlined in the Institute of Transportation Engineers Epe) report
entitled Trip Generation. Trip generation estimates were developed in arms of
vehicle nips per average weekday.
'gaffer Impact is determined by estimating the total number of daily vehicle
trips, as well as the number of peak hour velride hips. It should he recomy' red
Itat a percentage of these trips are "captured" trips while othcea are "new" trips
Captured" trips or "pass -by" hips refer to present momnsts who pass the site
that will probably patronize the development; thus, the driveway volumes at the
development is different from the total added to the adjacent street system.
Facilities such as retail establishments, restaurants, banks, service :tafloas, and
convenience stores attract motorists frmn the passing stream of traffic pass -by
trips and internally captured trips are not usually considered in this type of land
use
Table 4 illustrates the trip generatan for the proposed development for the
daily, morning, and mammon peak hours.
