Attachment 3 <br /> 1 <br /> 1 MINUTES <br /> 2 ORANGE COUNTY <br /> 3 BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 4 VIRTUAL LEGISLATIVE BREAKFAST <br /> 5 April 19, 2021 <br /> 6 8:30 a.m. <br /> 7 <br /> 8 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a virtual breakfast meeting with the <br /> 9 Orange County Legislative Delegation on Monday, April 19, 2021 at 8:30 a.m. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Renee Price, Vice Chair Jamezetta Bedford, <br /> 12 and Commissioners Amy Fowler (arrived at 8:57 a.m.) Sally Greene, Jean Hamilton, and Earl <br /> 13 McKee <br /> 14 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Mark Dorosin <br /> 15 COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br /> 16 COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Bonnie Hammersley, Deputy County Manager <br /> 17 Travis Myren, Clerk to the Board Laura Jensen, and Assistant to Manager for Legislative <br /> 18 Affairs Greg Wilder (All other staff members will be identified appropriately below) <br /> 19 LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION PRESENT: Representative Verla Insko, Representative Graig <br /> 20 Meyer, and Senator Valerie Foushee (arrived at 8:37 a.m.) <br /> 21 <br /> 22 Chair Price called the meeting to order at 8:31 a.m. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 Due to current public health concerns, the Board of Commissioners is conducting a <br /> 25 Virtual Legislative Breakfast on April 19, 2021 utilizing Zoom. Members of the Board of <br /> 26 Commissioners will be participating in the meeting remotely. As in prior meetings, members of <br /> 27 the public will be able to view and listen to the meeting via live streaming video at <br /> 28 orangecountync.gov/967/Meeting-Videos and on Orange County Gov-TV on channels 1301 or <br /> 29 97.6 (Spectrum Cable). <br /> 30 <br /> 31 Chair Price said Commissioner Dorosin would be absent from the meeting, and <br /> 32 Commissioner Fowler had a schedule conflict and would be in and out of the meeting. <br /> 33 <br /> 34 A roll call of the County Commissioners was taken; all members were present, except <br /> 35 Commissioners Dorosin and Fowler. <br /> 36 <br /> 37 Commissioners introduced themselves during roll call and welcomed the <br /> 38 Representatives. <br /> 39 Chair Price invited the Representatives to introduce themselves. <br /> 40 Representative Insko introduced herself as the Representative of House District 56, <br /> 41 which covers mostly Chapel Hill and Carrboro in Orange County. She said she used to be a <br /> 42 Commissioner, and is familiar with how the Board of County Commissioners works. She said <br /> 43 she is on the Health Committee, Health and Human Services Appropriations Committee, <br /> 44 Environment, Elections Law, and a couple of other smaller committees that are not meeting. <br /> 45 She said she is concentrating on filing bills that will tell voters that Democrats are serious about <br /> 46 taking back the majority, the bills that would be passed, and how the State would be different if <br /> 47 Democrats were running it. <br /> 48 Representative Meyer introduced himself, and said he represents areas in Orange <br /> 49 County that are mostly outside of Chapel Hill and Carrboro, as well as Caswell County. He <br /> 50 shared a personal story, saying he recently lamented how little fun there has been in the <br /> 51 legislature this year, and his mother told him he should run for County Commissioner as maybe <br />
