Unfortunately, <br /> these predictions became reality as assessments began occurring. At no fault of our students or teachers, <br /> OCS assessment data reflected stark contrasts to just one year earlier. <br /> As kindergartners, only 28% started the year well below the benchmark in 2019. <br /> 59% of this same cohort of students started their first grade year well below the benchmark in 2020 which <br /> is a 31% increase. The number of students above benchmark decreased 18%. <br /> You will also notice that the data reflects that it took until the middle of the current school year for our stu- <br /> dents to begin catching up to where they were when they started Kindergarten. <br />
