69 <br /> Success During a Pandemic <br /> Even though an Executive Order issued by the Governor closed Public Schools in March 2020, Orange <br /> County Schools continued to have successes through good work such as: <br /> => Successfully standing up a remote learning model of instruction <br /> => Converted in-person curriculum for an online platform <br /> => Implemented a district-based assessment tool in absence of state assessments to monitor stu- <br /> dent progress <br /> => Developed and implemented self-paced option for students <br /> => Planning for professional development that will build staff's capacity regarding the Science of <br /> Reading and the implementation of new curriculum that will provide access to more rigorous <br /> curriculum <br /> => Opened five Supervised Learning Labs to provide families a safe environment for their students <br /> to learn while parents continued working <br /> => Developed and implemented in-person small group learning opportunities to meet the aca- <br /> demic and SEL needs of students <br /> => Provided supplemental meals to the community (i.e. food boxes, meals over weekends and <br /> during breaks) <br /> => Implemented numerous health and safety protocols <br /> => Improved communications by launching a new website with translation features <br /> => Hired Family Liaisons who are bilingual at all schools to support family engagement <br /> Applied and was accepted to the Flamboyan Foundation Fellowship in an effort to better en- <br /> gage our families <br /> Established a Essential Partners Committee with the faith-based community and business part- <br /> ners designed to improve outreach to marginalized families <br />
