Durham Technical Community College's request reflects a total increase
of$195,71 I. This amount includes an increase of$36,722 or 4.6% in existing operating
funds, a $108,979 request for new positions, and a $50,000 increase in Financial Aid to
support unemployed and underemployed residents in Back-to-Work courses. The changes
in Current Operating Expenses appear below:
• Salaries and Benefits. This includes an increase of $47,845 (13%). This increase
includes a 2.5°-o increase for salaries and benefits to match the expected increases for
state paid employees and to continue to pay all employees a livable wage and funds to
cover back increases in retirement that had not be requested in the past, This is also
reflects increases in Workers Compensation and other employee related insurance.
• Operational Costs. A projected increase of $5,991 (2.3%) in the cost of utilities,
contracted services and insurance.
• Facilities Tech Position. A new request of $17,979 that covers the Orange County
portion of the salary and benefits for a new Facilities Tech position to support the
increase in facility maintenance needs.
• Small Business Center Support. A request for $70,000 for a Small Business Center
position to coordinate training opportunities for Orange County clients.
• Student Technology Assistance. A coordinator for our Student Technology Support
Help Desk at a cost of$21,000 for a 30 hourweek. Since more students are working
remotely, there is a greater need for help with their technology related issues. This
position would coordinate work study students, who would provide the actual support.
This is the Orange County portion of this position.
• Financial Aid for Back-to-Work courses. This provides $50,000 for financial aid
grants for Back to Work students when their courses are not covered by the State of
North Carolina's GEER funding.
Thank you for your partnership in serving the needs of Orange County's residents_ We
look forward to working w4h you to create budget that supports our community's needs.
All my best
John B. Bu It
