Article 1: Administration 31 <br /> Section 1.8: Board of Adjustment <br /> (D) Natural and Cultural Systems, including: <br /> (1) Agriculture, <br /> (2) Air and Energy Resources, <br /> (3) Cultural and Historic Resources, <br /> (4) Natural Areas, Wildlife Habitat and Prime Forests, <br /> (5) Water Resources, <br /> (E) Parks and Recreation, <br /> (F) Services and Community Facilities, including: <br /> (1) Water and Wastewater, <br /> (2) Erosion Control and Stormwater Management, <br /> (3) Solid Waste and Recycling, <br /> (4) Public Safety and Telecommunications, <br /> (5) Library Service, <br /> (6) Education, <br /> (G) Transportation, <br /> (H) County Profile (Data), and <br /> (1) Such additional elements dealing with other subjects which in the judgment of the <br /> Board of Commissioners relate to the physical development of the county. Such <br /> elements may include, but not be limited to, the subjects of historic preservation, <br /> community or rural design, growth management, etc. <br /> 1.7.3 Area Plans <br /> As part of the Comprehensive Plan, area plans may be prepared which focus on a portion of the <br /> County such as a township, a watershed or an interstate highway interchange. Likewise, <br /> technical information and/or task force reports prepared as part of a plan element or an area plan <br /> may be incorporated as part of the appendix of or as a supplement to the Comprehensive Plan. <br /> In preparation and adoption of a plan element, area plan or other similar document, the Board of <br /> Commissioners shall ever be mindful of the need to balance the public interest with the needs of <br /> private interests, particularly in the conservation of surface and underground water resources, soil <br /> resources, and natural growth resources of the county and the efficient use of the renewable and <br /> non-renewable sources of energy. <br /> SECTION 1.8: BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT <br /> 1.8.1 Establishment <br /> (A) The Orange County Board of Commissioners under the authority of§'F�5160D- <br /> 302 of the General Statutes of North Carolina, as amended, for the purposes and <br /> advantages described herein creates a Board of Adjustment. <br /> (B) The Board shall consist of five members and two alternates who shall be residents of <br /> Orange County's Planning Jurisdiction. Members shall serve without compensation <br /> except for incidental expenses incurred in connection with official duties as approved <br /> by the Board of County Commissioners. <br /> (C) The Board of County Commissioners may by resolution establish rules related to the <br /> requirements for volunteer service on the Board of Adjustment, appointment and <br /> removal of Board of Adjustment members, and rules of procedure. <br /> Orange County, North Carolina—Unified Development Ordinance Page 1-16 <br />
