6 <br /> WHEREAS, as Director, Bob has established cohesive working relationships with other County <br /> departments, local law enforcement, district courts, animal rescue groups and other animal <br /> welfare agencies; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mr. Marotto's commitment to community and outreach has been evident in his <br /> participation in multiple speaking engagements, special events and published essays and <br /> editorials; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mr. Marotto has never put a dog and cat in the same cage and is known for <br /> grabbing a control pole and jumping in to help capture the most aggressive and elusive <br /> Chihuahua; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mr. Marotto is retiring from Orange County on March 3, 2021 after 16 years of <br /> service and devotion for both people and animals, and will be missed; <br /> NOW THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby recognize <br /> and express deep appreciation and respect for the services rendered by Robert Marotto to the <br /> Orange County community, and wish him well in his retirement. <br /> This the 16t" day of February, 2021. <br /> Renee Price, Chair <br /> Orange County Board of <br /> Commissioners <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Hamilton to <br /> approve the proclamation recognizing and expressing appreciation to Bob Marotto for his <br /> service to the people of Orange County and wishing him well in his retirement and authorize the <br /> Chair to sign the proclamation. <br /> Roll call ensued <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> Amanda Schwoerke, Animal Services Advisory Board, read a statement of the board's <br /> appreciation to Bob Marotto: <br /> We the undersigned members of the Animal Services Advisory Board, on the occasion <br /> of the retirement of Orange County Animal Services Director Bob Marotto, wish to memorialize <br /> our profound admiration and appreciation for his many years of service. <br /> Following a nationwide search, Bob became Orange County's first Director of Animal <br /> Services in July 2005. He came to Orange County after 11 years at the City of Minneapolis' <br /> Animal Care and Control Program, where he began as an Animal Control Officer and became <br /> Program Director. Orange County Animal Services was born with Bob's arrival in 2005. At that <br /> time, Animal Control resided within the Health Department, while the old shelter was <br /> administered by the non-profit Animal Protection Society of Orange County. Under Bob's <br /> direction, animal control and animal care were brought together, both operationally and, <br /> eventually, under one roof with the opening of the beautiful new Orange County Animal <br /> Services building in 2009. When Bob arrived in 2005, the intake level of animals was <br /> approximately 5,000 per year and the live release rate was approximately 50-60%; today, <br />
