21 <br /> Environmental and Agricultural Center is presented to the Board of Orange County <br /> Commissioners for consideration. <br /> Ivelisse Colon, Family and Consumer Science Agent for NC Cooperative Extension in <br /> Orange County, spoke in support of this renaming. She said Ms. Davis has a strong <br /> commitment to serving the County, and improved the lives of many. She said Ms. Davis <br /> reminds the County to serve with equity and excellence. She said Orange County is forward <br /> thinking, and this renaming is one example of this. She said if this renaming occurs, it will be <br /> the first Ag Center to be named after an African American woman. She said Orange County <br /> would be an example to others in the state. <br /> Dr. Fletcher Barber, Jr. thanked the Manager for her comments about Bonnie B. Davis. <br /> He said he is the retired extension director, and worked with Ms. Davis. He said she was a <br /> servant leader, and a legend within cooperative extension. He said one had to be on point <br /> when working with a legend. He said she received all of the state and national awards one <br /> could receive as an extension employee, and was especially proud of receiving the Pauli <br /> Murray award. He said she stood for what was right, and did not wear a watch, because she <br /> did not want to be hindered by time when working with families. He said it is fitting to honor to <br /> rename the center after her. <br /> Commissioner McKee praised Ms. Davis and whole-heartedly endorsed renaming the <br /> center after her. He said she was very smart, dignified, and a force to be reckoned with when <br /> she wanted something done. <br /> Commissioner Fowler said after reading all of the letters in support of her, it was clear <br /> Ms. Davis was a remarkable woman. <br /> Commissioner Hamilton said she is proud to be an African American woman standing <br /> on the shoulders of someone like Ms. Davis. She said she supported the renaming. <br /> Commissioner Bedford said reading the letters of support transported her to a time in <br /> Orange County history that she did not know. She said Ms. Davis created the leaders of today, <br /> and mentioned it would be good for the schools to know about her work. <br /> Chair Price said lifting up someone like Ms. Davis is heart-warming, and she whole- <br /> heartedly supports the action. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Hamilton to <br /> bring forward a resolution to rename the building after Ms. Davis. <br /> Roll call ensued. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. <br /> Chair Price said it would be good to bring the family to the naming of the building when it <br /> opens. <br /> 7.
