32 <br /> Roll call ensued. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> Chair Price proposed a process of nominating resident applicants, where each <br /> nomination must receive four votes by a show of hands to be added to a slate, from which to <br /> vote. <br /> Commissioner Dorosin requested a discussion of the goals for this committee, and what <br /> variables the Board may want to consider in its appointees. <br /> Chair Price said those thoughts can be included during the nomination process, unless <br /> a broader discussion is needed. <br /> Commissioner Hamilton thanked everyone who applied, and noted the high number of <br /> qualified people willing to volunteer. She said it is hard when there are so many applicants but <br /> so few spots. She said she hoped there would be ways for those who are not chosen to <br /> provide input to the task force. <br /> Commissioner McKee echoed appreciation for the applicants, but said there a lack of <br /> racial diversity in the applications. <br /> Chair Price confirmed the process for making nominations: as the Board makes <br /> nominations, it will vote on each nominee using a show of hands, and nominees with 4 or more <br /> votes will move on to the next round of voting. <br /> Commissioner Dorosin nominated Paul Cardillo, and discussed his current efforts to <br /> improve service in his community. 6 Commissioners voted yes. <br /> Commissioner McKee nominated Peter Hallenbeck, and discussed his efforts in using <br /> technology to improve public safety responses. 5 Commissioners voted yes. <br /> Commissioner Greene nominated Daniel Allison, noting his experience in IT services. 5 <br /> Commissioners voted yes. <br /> Commissioner Bedford nominated Terri Buckner from the Carrboro ETJ, noting that she <br /> is a woman. 4 Commissioners voted yes. <br /> Commissioner Fowler nominated Shannon Nichols, noting that she is female and from <br /> Hillsborough and had a telecommunications and urban planning background. 4 Commissioners <br /> voted yes. <br /> Chair Price nominated Pavani Peri, as she is Asian American and young. 3 <br /> Commissioners voted yes. <br /> Commissioner Dorosin asked for a discussion as to why Pavani Peri was not supported, <br /> given the diversity she would bring to the task force. <br /> Commissioner Fowler said her list was weighted towards people who are not in Chapel <br /> Hill, since Internet service is less of an issue in the southern part of the County. <br /> Chair Price said the list will still have to be whittled down in a future round. <br /> Chair Price reviewed the current list of those with four or more votes. <br /> Commissioner Bedford nominated Todd Broucksou, because of his experience with <br /> MCNC. <br /> Commissioner Greene also echoed support for Todd Broucksou, and said MCNC can <br /> be very helpful in this process. 4 Commissioners supported him. <br /> Commissioner Fowler nominated Patricia Hull from Hurdle Mills, a data analyst with <br /> experience in urban planning. 4 Commissioners voted yes. <br /> Chair Price expressed concern that there are two Asian Americans who applied to the <br /> task force, but neither has been nominated. <br /> Commissioner McKee said he is focusing on experience. <br />
