Proclamation Recognizing and Honoring Ron Stutts <br /> 4 The Board considered voting to approve a proclamation recognizing and honoring Ron <br /> 5 Stutts for his 43 years of serving the Chapel Hill/Carrboro and Orange County community on <br /> 6 WCHL radio and authorize the Chair to sign. <br /> 7 Chair Price asked Commissioner Bedford to introduce the item and to read the <br /> 8 resolution. <br /> 9 Commissioner Bedford recognized coworkers from WCHL, and then read the resolution: <br /> 10 <br /> 11 BACKGROUND: <br /> 12 Ron Stutts began his career with WCHL on July 16, 1977. Since that time, Mr. Stutts has been <br /> 13 waking up the Chapel Hill/Carrboro and Orange County community on air for 43 years, hosted <br /> 14 the "Ron Stutts Show" on WCHL radio and is recognized as the "voice of our community." With <br /> 15 the Village Pride and Hometown Heroes segments of his morning show, Ron often featured <br /> 16 County residents, business owners, non-profit directors, leaders, volunteers, and others over <br /> 17 the years, highlighting the good work being done in the community. Mr. Stutts also donated <br /> 18 many hours of his time serving as the Emcee for many community events and organizations <br /> 19 over the years, including at festivals, concerts, and fundraisers. <br /> 20 <br /> 21 Mr. Stutts was awarded Radio Personality of the Year by the North Carolina Association of <br /> 22 Broadcasters in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 Mr. Stutts retired on December 18, 2020, and residents throughout the community will miss <br /> 25 starting each day listening to that silky smooth voice to get their community news and <br /> 26 information, as well as some groovy song recommendations. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS PROCLAMATION <br /> 29 RECOGNIZING AND HONORING RON STUTTS, <br /> 30 RETIRING WCHL RADIO PERSONALITY <br /> 31 <br /> 32 WHEREAS, Ron Stutts began his career with WCHL on July 16, 1977, and retired 15,861 days <br /> 33 later on December 18, 2020; and <br /> 34 <br /> 35 WHEREAS, Ron Stutts had been waking up the Chapel Hill/Carrboro and Orange County <br /> 36 community on air for 43 years, hosted the "Ron Stutts Show" on WCHL radio and is recognized <br /> 37 as the "voice of our community"; and <br /> 38 <br /> 39 WHEREAS, Ron Stutts has been one of our community's "leading action adults" for more than <br /> 40 four decades, always keeping the Town of Carrboro "one degree cooler" and ensuring that <br /> 41 WCHL is "Where Chapel Hill Listens" for fun, informative, vital, and sometimes even lifesaving <br /> 42 local news; and <br /> 43 <br /> 44 WHEREAS, Ron Stutts has been the voice of the UNC Football Pregame Show Countdown to <br /> 45 Kick off for 43 years; and <br /> 46 <br /> 47 WHEREAS, on the Village Pride and Hometown Heroes segments of his morning show, Ron <br /> 48 often featured County residents, business owners, non-profit directors, leaders, volunteers, and <br /> 49 others over the years, highlighting the good work being done in our community; and <br /> 50 <br />
