Lastly, I have been <br /> working with various organizations to raise money for local businesses that have been <br /> affectedA by COVID-19. <br /> Past Service on Orange County Advisory Boards: <br /> Board of Equalization and Review (2019,2020) <br /> Boards/Commissions applied for: <br /> Board of Equalization and Review (REQUIRES DISCLOSURE STATEMENT) <br /> Background, education and experience relevant to this board: <br /> In 2005, 1 moved from New York City to North Carolina to work with a nonprofit involved in prison <br /> reform. I was quickly drawn to the communities of Hillsborough, Chapel Hill and Carrboro and I <br /> moved to Carrboro in 2006. Since then, I ve remained in Orange County. In 2012, while working <br /> as the Program Director and Finance Manager of Communities in Schools of Orange County, I <br /> wrote a 1.3 million dollar Federal grant to fund drop-out prevention programs at 7 Orange <br /> County middle schools, 2 elementary schools, and 1 high school. We were awarded this grant <br /> and I subsequently implemented it in the CHCCS and Orange County School system. <br /> Additionally, since 2009, 1 have been involved in property management, development, and <br /> investment in Orange County. I also have a strong knowledge of local real estate markets, <br /> market trends, property valuations, the county s GIS site, the UDO, and other resources, based <br /> on my experience buying, selling, and developing property. <br /> Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: <br /> When I first applied to serve on the Board of Equalization and Review, my motivation was simply <br /> to offer my knowledge of the real estate market, market valuations, and market trends, and to <br /> engage in more service work in our County. My two years on the Equalization Board have made <br /> me understand the importance of learning, adapting, and helping to improve the Board so <br /> decisions are made that are fair to all taxpayers. I have attended Property Tax Commission <br /> appeals in Raleigh, spoken with tax offices in over 20 other North Carolina Counties about theirA <br />
