RES - 2021 - 013 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING MARCH 3 , 2021 AS A DAY OF REFLECTION , <br /> COMMEMORATING THE FIRST NORTH CAROLINIAN DIAGNOSED WITH COVIDA 9 <br /> WHEREAS , North Carolina reported its first case of COVID - 19 on March 3 , 2020 ; and <br /> WHEREAS , since the start of the COVID - 19 pandemic , North Carolina has experienced <br /> nearly 845 , 000 COVID cases and 11 , 000 deaths ; and <br /> WHEREAS , Orange County has experienced over 7 , 500 COVID cases and 93 deaths <br /> over the past year ; and <br /> WHEREAS , the United States has recently surpassed over 500 , 000 deaths from COVID - <br /> 19 ; and <br /> WHEREAS , our frontline health care and essential workers have faced incredible <br /> challenges as we battled the pandemic and continue providing the services our residents <br /> need ; and <br /> WHEREAS , the COVID - 19 pandemic has taken a physical , mental and emotional toll on <br /> our frontline health care and essential workers and residents ; and <br /> WHEREAS , our county , state and nation are grieving the hundreds of thousands lives lost <br /> as well as personal , financial , economic and other impacts of the pandemic ; and <br /> WHEREAS , we continue to fight the pandemic by caring for those battling the virus , <br /> continuing our research on treatment and prevention , and vaccinating our residents ; and <br /> WHEREAS , we will continue working together as a community until we can bring an end <br /> to the COVID - 19 pandemic ; <br /> NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> that March 3 , 2021 is declared a Day of Reflection for the lives lost and severely impacted <br /> by the COVID - 19 pandemic . This day will also recognize the hard work , dedication and <br /> sacrifices of our frontline health care and essential workers that have selflessly served our <br /> community during this time . <br /> This the 2nd day of March , 2021 . <br /> Renee Price , Chair <br /> Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />
