<br />Government Commission, Raleigh, North Carolina, for its approval of the issuance of the following
<br />proposed bonds of the County of Orange, North Carolina, which bonds shall be subject to the approval of
<br />the voters of said County at an election:
<br />$1,500,000 School Building Bonds for the purpose of providing funds, with any
<br />other available funds, for erecting additional school buildings and
<br />other school plant facilities, remodeling, enlarging and reconstruct-
<br />ing existing school buildings and other school plant facilities, and
<br />acquiring necessary land and equipment therefor, in order to provide
<br />additional school facilities in the County of Orange to maintain the
<br />six months' school term in said County as required by Section 3 of
<br />Article Lt of the Constitution.
<br />This notice was first published on the 5th day of January, 1961. Any citizens or taxpayer
<br />objecting to the issuance of all or any of said bonds may file with the Local Government Commission
<br />a verified statement setting forth his objections as provided in Section 159-7.1 of the General
<br />Statutues of North Carolina, in which event he shall also file a copy of each statement with the
<br />undersigned, at any time withia ten days from and after such first publication. A copy of this
<br />notice must be attached to the statement so filed. Objections set forth in said statement shall be
<br />for consideration by said Commissioners in its determination of whether or not it may hold a public
<br />hearing as provided by law on the matter of issuance of said bonds.

<br />Clyde Carazter, Secretary of the County Board of Election, and C. D. Jenkins a member of the
<br />Board of Elections, were present to discuss election finance with the Board of Commissioners. S. T.
<br />Latta, Chairman of the Board of Elections, was confined to his home with illness.
<br />Mr. Carter commented that the working out of a satisfactory pay schedule that would
<br />recognize the different wcrk loads in various size precincts was the most difficult problem the
<br />Election Board was confronted with at the present time. He suggested his Board be allowed to study
<br />the problem further and come back at a later date with a recommendation on this problem. The Board
<br />of Commissioners agreeded this was the proper step to take at this time and suggested that Mr.
<br />Carter and the Board of Elections proceed with their study Krone.
<br />A letter from Manning Simmons commenting on the election situation in the County was read
<br />by Chairman Stanford.
<br />Commissioner Bennett relayed a request to the Board from the Carrboro citizens sponsoring
<br />the National Guard unit concerning the $800.00 approproation request. The Board agreeded to
<br />consider this request at budget time and requested Commissioner Bennett to so inform the sponser!s,
<br />of the Carrboro National Guard Unit.
