33
Page 1 of 2 Krishna Mondal
Volunteer Application
Orange County Advisory Boards and Commissions
Name: Dr. Krishna Mondal
Name Called:
Home Address: 1424 Poinsett Drive
Chapel Hill NC 27517
Phone: 919-265-4243
Email: herfkm@gmail.com
Year of OC Residence: 2006
Township of Residence:
Zone of Residence:
Gender Identity: Female
Ethnic Background: Asian American
Age Range: 35-59
Community Activities/Organizational Memberships:
Voter Education, Voter Registration, English language teacher, Orange County Literacy
Council, League of Women Voter of Orange, Durham and Chatham Counties.
Past Service on Orange County Advisory Boards:
None now and none before.
Boards/Commissions applied for:
BOCC Elections Advisory Group
Background, education and experience relevant to this board:
My extensive knowledge of NC state and local election laws and processes as well as
experience in educating voters in these procedures would be very valuable to the BOCC
Elections Advisory Group.Over the past seven years, I directed the voter education program for
the Orange, Durham, and Chatham County chapter of the League of Women Voters and two
years for the statewide League. I have taught US elections and voting practices at Orange and
Durham County Literacy Councils as well as to heterogeneous populations that varied by
ethnicity, socioeconomic background, age, level of literacy, language proficiency, and more.
Notably, I have been fortunate enough to interact with diverse groups of voters, listen to their
specific concerns, encourage them to learn about candidates and issues. I bring to this board
my knowledge of election laws, ability to teach, and experience of working with North Carolina
voters.
Additionally, I bring over 20 years of professional expertise in conducting scientific research,
teaching and writing to this advisory group.
Reasons for wanting to serve on this board:
In North Carolina, a citizens€TMs life is most directly impacted by the decisions and work of the
county commissioners. It is therefore critical the process of electing the BOCC be clear to the
voters and fair to the candidates. It is well documented that confused voters are unlikely to vote.
Thus, a clear voting protocol is essential to promote voting and citizen engagement.
Recently candidates have stated that the 2020 primarys€TMs narrow win by a District 1
candidate may have resulted from voter confusion and voting pattern irregularities.
