Year-to-Date Budget <br /> Summary <br /> PURPOSE: To approve budget and grant project ordinance amendments for fiscal year 2020-21. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Department of Social Services <br /> 1. The Department of Social Services (DSS) has received the following additional funds: <br /> • CARES funds - The North Carolina General Assembly has appropriated federal <br /> CARES funds for adult and child protective services; Orange County DSS has received <br /> a second allocation of $35,000. This amendment will appropriate these funds to <br /> improve telework abilities for adult and child protective services staff; educational <br /> support for foster children; and various medical, PPE, and food delivery for adult <br /> protective services. <br /> • LIEAP funds — receipt of an award of $203,236 in Pandemic Low Income Energy <br /> Assistance Program (LIEAP)funding for COVID relief. The additional funds will be used <br /> towards energy bills for qualifying clients. <br /> • Donation — receipt of a donation of $750 from the Triangle Community Foundation for <br /> the county's foster-adoption programs. These funds will be appropriated outside the <br /> general fund in the DSS Client Services Fund. <br /> This budget amendment provides for the receipt of these funds for the above stated <br /> purposes.
