Proclamation Recognizing David Hunt <br /> 2 The Board considered approving a proclamation recognizing and expressing gratitude to <br /> 3 David Hunt for his devotion and service to the people of Orange County, and authorizing the <br /> 4 Chair to sign the proclamation. <br /> 5 <br /> 6 Greg Wilder, Interim Clerk to the Board, reviewed the item below: <br /> 7 <br /> 8 BACKGROUND: <br /> 9 After over 17 years of service to the Board of Commissioners in the Clerk to the Board's Office, <br /> 10 David Hunt is retiring as the Deputy Clerk to the Board/Information Specialist. <br /> 11 <br /> 12 After a career in the private sector, David Hunt joined the Clerk to the Board's Office in 2003 as <br /> 13 the Deputy Clerk to the Board/Information Specialist. In his initial years, Mr. Hunt managed <br /> 14 Orange County's public information efforts developing press releases, drafting public hearing <br /> 15 notices, monitoring and updating the County website, and compiling multiple materials to inform <br /> 16 the public of County activities and projects. Mr. Hunt has also become a trusted resource in the <br /> 17 Clerk's Office for the Board of Commissioners and staff Countywide, including developing a <br /> 18 substantial bank of photographs utilized by County Departments and others to highlight services <br /> 19 and promote events associated with Orange County. Mr. Hunt has also over the years served <br /> 20 as a valuable contributor serving the needs of the public at the Emergency Operations Center <br /> 21 during weather and other hazardous events. <br /> 22 <br /> 23 More recently, Mr. Hunt became the point person for the Board of Commissioners and multiple <br /> 24 County staff for conducting virtual meetings. David has served as the principal County contact <br /> 25 for organizing Board of Commissioners' meetings virtually, as well as interacting and <br /> 26 coordinating with presenters, members of the public wishing to speak, and others involved. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 It should also be noted that while serving the County, Mr. Hunt has also been an active member <br /> 29 in the community, including serving as a dedicated volunteer with the New Hope Volunteer Fire <br /> 30 Department. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve and authorize the <br /> 33 Chair to sign the attached proclamation recognizing and expressing appreciation to David Hunt <br /> 34 for his service to the people of Orange County and wishing him well in his retirement. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 Deputy Clerk Thom Freeman said it has been his pleasure to work with David Hunt over <br /> 37 the past 8 years. He said David Hunt is a gentle giant, and produces excellent results. He said <br /> 38 David Hunt is painfully thorough, and is a valued member of the team. He wished him the best <br /> 39 for his future, and said it has been a privilege to serve with him. <br /> 40 Allen Coleman said he has such appreciation for David Hunt's patience and support over <br /> 41 the years. He wished him well for the future. <br /> 42 Greg Wilder thanked David Hunt for his creativity, expertise and attention to detail. He <br /> 43 said David Hunt has made a great difference in the Clerk's Office, and has showed great <br /> 44 leadership since Donna Baker's passing. He said David Hunt's work on all of the virtual <br /> 45 meetings is immense, and the success of these meetings is due to him. He wished him well for <br /> 46 the future. <br /> 47 Commissioner McKee said "painfully thorough" is a high compliment, and this attention <br /> 48 to detail has kept the Commissioners prepared and informed.
