Serving as the nonprofit You Can Vote s Orange County <br /> organizer beginning in the 2016 election cycle expanded my knowledge of our county s <br /> population distribution and our local electoral structures. My service on Carrboro s Human <br /> Services Advisory Commission has broadened my understanding of our county even more, as I <br /> ve had the opportunity to hear presentations by over 60 organizations that serve a range of <br /> populations across our county. <br /> My understanding of electoral structures and institutions draws upon both my educational <br /> background and experience in electoral and issue organizing. I earned my undergraduate <br /> degree in public policy studies and Ph.D. in modern U.S. history. I ve taught courses on <br /> American Political History and on Government and Race Relations. <br /> For over a decade I ve volunteered and been employed by campaigns and organizations that <br /> have championed greater political engagement by underrepresented communities.
