We are currently conducting a <br /> study of county redistricting around the state, which has encouraged me to explore this topic <br /> quite extensively. On the educational side, I hold a doctorate of public policy from the Harvard <br /> Kennedy School (1982)and have both taught graduate courses on public governance and <br /> carried out research on that topic. I have also personally observed most of the recent court <br /> cases on NC redistricting and attended the redrawings conducted by the legislature, as well as <br /> discussing county redistricting with a range of individuals around the state. <br /> Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: <br /> I am motivated primarily by a desire to participate in a local redistricting exercise, both to <br /> contribute whatever I can to my home county and to learn more about this process. I believe <br /> strongly in soliciting the views of the public in carrying out a redistricting as well as working to <br /> ensure that the resulting framework enables voters voices to be heard on an equitable basis. <br /> Contribution to the diversity of viewpoints on this board: <br />
