65
Page 2 of 2 George Stuart
sojourn to Durham County
Reasons for wanting to serve on this board:
Twelve years of service on Durham Habitat5€TMs Family Selection Committee, including as
committee chair, has shown me first-hand the effects of the digital divide (now more
appropriately called the network divide). Lack of equitable internet access has been a growing
societal problem for years. In 2020, the pandemic suddenly made it critical. la€Tmd like to use my
network industry experience to help resolve the inequities in my own county caused by
disparities in internet access.
Contribution to the diversity of viewpoints on this board:
The task force will benefit from my unique mindset: 15€TMM uniquely skilled at using an
analytical, data-driven thought process to achieve societal improvement goals. I5€TMm a
staunch believer that everyone deserves an equitable chance to succeed. I have extensive
experience in the networking industry, in technology, operations, and financing. Having led a
staff of 100+ professionals, managed multimillion-dollar budgets, and delivered major enterprise
projects, I know how to get things done. Yet I also believe strongly in the importance of giving
people a chance to succeed, as demonstrated by my long-term commitment to Habitat for
Humanity. Finally, my service on several boards and councils has taught me that looking at a
problem from different viewpoints can lead to better outcomes than even the 5€cesmartest
person in the rooms€Fcould devise.
Conflict of Interest:
Boards/Commissions appointments:
Other Comments:
This application was current on: 1/5/2021 12:58:29 PM Date Printed: 1/6/2021
