That was very <br /> contentious time for Orange County to decide between levying more sales tax or levying a <br /> real estate transfer tax. I was an effective moderator between two very contentious <br /> groups. For probably the first time for a committee in Orange County, I used Google <br /> Docs which allowed committee members to propose wording and we voted on each <br /> wording proposal. The realtors spent 250K when the issue was put on the ballot. <br /> Boards/Commissions applied for: <br /> Orange County Broadband Task Force <br /> Background, education and experience relevant to this board: <br /> I have a math and computer science degree from UNC-CH. I started my career developing and <br /> testing networking equipment over 30 years ago and am still employed and active in networking, <br /> computer systems, apps, computer controlled 3D milling, etc. <br /> Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: <br /> There is a huge digital devide issue based on socio economic status and rural vs urban in the <br /> US and in Orange County which has become even more evident during COVID. I started <br /> working with CHCCS on these issues over 15 years ago. Chromebooks are helping solve the <br /> computer access issue, but internet access remains problematic. <br /> Contribution to the diversity of viewpoints on this board: <br /> Internet access is a necessity for all. <br /> Conflict of Interest: <br />
