1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: February 2, 2021 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 4-a <br /> SUBJECT: Proclamation Recognizing and Honoring Ron Stutts <br /> DEPARTMENT: County Commissioners <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): <br /> INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Proclamation <br /> Commissioner Jamezetta Bedford, 919- <br /> 245-2130 <br /> Greg Wilder, 919-245-2300 <br /> PURPOSE: To consider a proclamation recognizing and honoring Ron Stutts for his 43 years of <br /> serving the Chapel Hill/Carrboro and Orange County community on WCHL radio. <br /> BACKGROUND: Ron Stutts began his career with WCHL on July 16, 1977. Since that time, Mr. <br /> Stutts has been waking up the Chapel Hill/Carrboro and Orange County community on air for 43 <br /> years, hosted the "Ron Stutts Show" on WCHL radio and is recognized as the "voice of our <br /> community." With the Village Pride and Hometown Heroes segments of his morning show, Ron <br /> often featured County residents, business owners, non-profit directors, leaders, volunteers, and <br /> others over the years, highlighting the good work being done in the community. Mr. Stutts also <br /> donated many hours of his time serving as the Emcee for many community events and <br /> organizations over the years, including at festivals, concerts, and fundraisers. <br /> Mr. Stutts was awarded Radio Personality of the Year by the North Carolina Association of <br /> Broadcasters in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019. <br /> Mr. Stutts retired on December 18, 2020, and residents throughout the community will miss <br /> starting each day listening to that silky smooth voice to get their community news and information, <br /> as well as some groovy song recommendations. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with consideration of the <br /> proclamation. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: There is no Orange County Social Justice Goal impact associated <br /> with consideration of the proclamation. <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: There is no Orange County Environmental Responsibility Goal <br /> impact associated with consideration of the proclamation. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve and authorize the <br /> Chair to sign the attached proclamation recognizing and honoring Ron Stutts for his 43 years of <br /> serving the Chapel Hill/Carrboro and Orange County community on WCHL radio and wishing him <br /> well in his retirement. <br />
