k`insstes of the Board 19 Commissioners <br />October 3, 1960 <br />A Committee under the Chairmanship of Commissioner Jones reported on its findings regarding <br />the current fees being charged by the Clerk of Court and Register of Deeds. The fee bill of the <br />Register of Deeds was first discussed. <br />Commissioner Donald Stanf and moved that these new fees as recomended by the Committee be <br />placed into effect on January 1, 1961. Commissioner _eDade gave a second to this motion and <br />when Chairman Hobbs called for a vote there were h ayes and 0 nays. <br />This Committee then made a report of its findings, as far as the Clerk of the Courts <br />Office fees were concered. Commissioner Stalker then moved these new fees as recomeaned by <br />the Committee be adopted. This motion received a second from Commissioner Donald Stanford <br />and when Chairman Hobbs called for a vote there were h ayes and 0 neys. <br />The Committee noted the fact that the fees of the Sheriffs Office were also under <br />consideration, but a report on these charges would not be made until the Sheriff is. <br />released from the hospital. <br />The Board directed a copy of these proposed fee bills be submitted to the County <br />Attorney, for his legal approval before they are placed into effect. After approval by <br />the County Attorney said fee schedules will be entered in the minutes of the Board. <br />The Accountant presented to the board information concerning the banking practices <br />of the County in past years. After looking at the exhibit and hearing of the practices of <br />other Counties, the Board directed the Accountant to determine has much surnlus money the <br />County must have in the future and to see how much interest the County banks are willing to <br />pay.on these deposits. <br />An oral request from the Curboro Volunteer Fire Department that the Board of County <br />Commissioners grunt them permission for a circus to present benefit performances in the <br />Town of Carrboro was presented to the Board. The Board waived the usual license requirement <br />and granted its permission for the circus to appear in this County for a one day stand only. <br />The County Board of Education presented to the Board of Commissioners the following <br />resolution. <br />RESOLUTION <br />Hillsboro, iv. C. <br />October 3, 1960 <br />RESOLUTION REPUESTING THIS BOARD OF CO`ISSIONERS FOR THE COUNTY OF ORANGE TO PROVIDE <br />SCHOOL FACILITIES <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Education of Cranes County: <br />Section 1. That The Board of Education has determined and found as a fact that adequate <br />school facilities are not available in the Orange County Administrative Unit to comply with the <br />constitutional requirement far the maintenance of schools six months in each year, and that it is <br />necessary in order to maintain such six months' school term as required by Section 3 of Article <br />IX of the Constitution to erect additional school buildings and other school plant facilities, <br />remodel and enlarge existing school buildings and other school plant facilities, and acquire <br />necessary land and equipment therefor to provide additional elementary and Secondary School <br />facilities in said Unit, as suggest in Citizens Finance Study Committee Report. <br />SECTION 2. That the Board of Commissioners for the County of Orange is requested to take <br />all necessary steps, by the issuance of bonds or otherwise, so that funds may be provided for <br />such school facilities. <br />SECTION 3• That a copy of this resolution shall be certified to said Board of <br />Commissioners for said County. <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION <br />/s/ D. 11. Carr, Secretary <br />The Accountant was directed to inform the Chapel Hill Board of Education of the receipt <br />of their resolution and to advise them this board was ready to receive a resolution along <br />similar lines from them so that the question of a bond election maybe presented to the Board. <br />K <br />The Accountant was given authority to proceed with a call for bids for ., automobiles <br />for the Sheriff Is Department and one for the delinquent Tar. Collect, <br />These bids will be opened at 10:00 A. 3I., October 21, 1960 at a special meeting of the <br />Board of County Commissioners. <br />The Chairman announced that the next meeting of this board would be at 10:00 A. ?. on <br />Thursday October 21, 1960. This would also be a meeting of the Board of Equalization and Review. <br />There being no further business the meeting was adjourned. <br />S. R. Oattis R. J. B.
