I take my responsibilities seriously and <br />would do the background work to understand the issues, attend meetings regularly and support <br />the decision-making process of the Commission s work. <br />Since I retired four years ago, environmental awareness and activities has been a main focus of <br />interest for me. I garden and frequently walk through the many trail,parks and neighborhoods in <br />Orange County. I have taken a number of courses,through being a volunteer at Duke <br />gardens,on topics such as botany,tree and flower cultivation,gardening and garden design.I have <br />attended speakers and lectures on topics relating to the environment whenever I can. I have an <br />interest in sustainable development and follow issues pertaining to land and water use, use of <br />renewable resources and urban development. <br />Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: <br />I would like to be able to serve the county by helping review and making recommendations that <br />best protect and enhance our environment, while balancing such needs as housing and retail <br />development. I see preserving the beauty and health of our environment as being one of the <br />19
