I have lived in cities
with public transportation available to all at a low cost, and in places where residents must be
car-dependent. I do not have experience specifically in transportation planning, but I have lived
in several different parts of Orange County and have used the roads and various types of public
transportation for nearly 20 years.
Reasons for wanting to serve on this board:
I have always had an interest in how cities plan for adequate transportation, and in the logistics
and management of public transportation. Though I don t think there is a simple solution, I don t
believe our County has quite maximized opportunities for providing public transportation to
residents. I would appreciate the opportunity to know more about the needs of the County, and
to develop careful plans to improve transportation in the future. Traffic, and the associated
noise and pollution, is an ongoing and increasing problem in Hillsborough.
Conflict of Interest:
Contribution to the diversity of viewpoints on this board:
I live off of a major road in just outside of Hillsborough, and would be completely landlocked if I
didn t have a car. I would prefer to bike and use public transit, but safety and lack of availability
are ongoing barriers. I would be happy to learn more about transportation challenges, and to
hear and represent the needs of my neighbors in Orange County.
8
