16 <br /> 1 Commissioner McKee said he is concerned for the social and emotional impacts on the <br /> 2 students, especially exceptional children. He encouraged the schools to use their unassigned <br /> 3 fund balances to address these needs. <br /> 4 Dr. Jim Causby said Commissioner McKee is preaching what he believes. He said there <br /> 5 is no question that children will be at least half a year behind. He said students cannot be <br /> 6 overloaded right now, but expanded summer offerings will be crucial. <br /> 7 Dr. Monique Felder agreed. She said this situation presents many challenges, especially <br /> 8 to those who were at risk prior to the pandemic. She said some OCS students are receiving <br /> 9 additional support, and more options are being pursued to increase this.
