3 <br /> <br />Commissioner Rich said she sent a resolution for the Board’s review, which she will put 1 <br />forward at the 10/20/2020 meeting, asking North Carolina to no longer support the Hyde 2 <br />Amendment. She said October is breast concern awareness month. She said the Health 3 <br />Department still encourages women to get mammograms done, despite COVID, as it can be 4 <br />done safely. 5 <br />Chair Rich said there was a Partners meeting today (formerly the MAC meeting), and 6 <br />these meetings will take place monthly. She said COVID numbers were up from 1.8% to 2% 7 <br />this week, and UNC was at 4.6% last week and now 5%. She said about 3,100 people are 8 <br />being tested a week, and contact traces are working hard. She said hospitals are not 9 <br />overwhelmed, but flu shots are critical, and she encouraged everyone to get flu shots. 10 <br />Chair Rich said emergency services is spotting Hurricane Delta, with 120 miles per hour 11 <br />winds. 12 <br />Chair Rich said the BOCC wants to extend sincere condolences to Chad Dorill’s family 13 <br />(Appalachian State (ASU) Student who died last week of COVID). She said ASU established a 14 <br />hotline, and UNC has one as well. 15 <br />Chair Rich said traditionally at this meeting the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) 16 <br />chooses a Commissioners’ Planning Retreat Committee. She said the BOCC can postpone the 17 <br />retreat until the spring, or not hold it at all. She asked if the BOCC wants to move forward on 18 <br />this retreat. 19 <br />Commissioner Price said she would be willing to serve on the committee and discuss 20 <br />details as time moves forward. 21 <br />Chair Rich said the only logistical issue is making sure the BOCC has time to vote on a 22 <br />calendar change, if necessary. 23 <br /> Commissioner McKee said he would serve on this committee. He said he would like to 24 <br />wait until the second meeting in November, and make a decision then. 25 <br />Chair Rich said traditionally the retreat is one day, and 7 hours via Zoom would not be 26 <br />ideal. She said retreats are more beneficial in person. 27 <br />Commissioner Greene said she is interested in having a retreat, and would be happy 28 <br />with several Zoom sessions. She said Triangle J has done this. She said a retreat would allow 29 <br />the BOCC to revisit its goals from last year. She petitioned to hear back from Ashley Heger 30 <br />about last year’s goal of tackling hunger. 31 <br />Chair Rich said Commissioner Price, Dorosin, and McKee would serve on the retreat 32 <br />planning committee. 33 <br />All three commissioners agreed to serve. 34 <br />Chair Rich said the committee could talk with the Clerk’s office, and report back to the 35 <br />Board at a later date. 36 <br /> 37 <br /> 38 <br />4.
