18

Lee Williams said Dr. Keeling covered most of the information, and CHCCS staff has 1
gone through similar training opportunities as OCS. He said when thinking about reopening, 2
every decision is made with a racial equity lens in mind. He said equity specialists are working 3
through dismantling and removing barriers. He said CHCCS currently has four equity 4
specialists: two in elementary, one in middle, and one in high school. 5
Mary Ann Wolf said it is refreshing to hear these updates, and thanked all staff for its 6
energy and work. 7
Hillary MacKenzie agreed, and expressed gratitude for the collaboration. She thanked 8
the BOCC for its help with the hotspots. 9
Commissioner Dorosin said six months ago there was a lot of discussion with CHCCS 10
around contracts, and an investigation that may be happening. He asked if there was a final 11
report that could be forwarded to the BOCC. 12
Mary Ann Wolf said the final report was just completed, and will be reviewed by the 13
CHCCS Board on October 8th, 2020. 14
Dr. Jim Causby said the report will be posted thereafter. 15
Commissioner Marcoplos said he was encouraged to hear that curriculums could be so 16
nimble to add more diverse classes. He said he would encourage the schools to add a course 17
on local government, as many people know nothing about local government. 18
Chair Rich said she would love to see women’s studies courses added. 19
Commissioner Greene said there are ready-made courses on local government at 20
Carolina’s Public Humanities. 21
Commissioner McKee said he is very pleased to hear the construction updates. 22
Chair Rich encouraged everyone to continue wearing masks, and follow safety 23
guidelines. She said the Governor has encouraged schools to open, but schools should not feel 24
pressured to do so. 25
26
Meeting adjourned at 9:29 p.m. 27
28
29
30
Penny Rich, Chair 31
32
Allen Coleman 33
Assistant Deputy Clerk II 34
35
Submitted for approval by Gregory A.
